Life of Raphael

Raphael was born in Urbino. He first began to learn painting from his father who was also a great painter. Raphael's early works of art were created with clarity and harmony. Later on in his life Raphael worked in Tuscany where he first saw the works of Leonardo da Vinci. Seeing his art influenced him greatly as an artist. After Raphael started becoming more and more known he was summoned by Pope Julius II in 1508 to create frescos in the Vatican. The best known of his works he did in the Vatican is The School of Athens. But, after completing the second room in the Vatican, in 1514 he was in such great demand that his assistants finished much of his work.
